What is DNS _____  
  The domain name system (DNS) is the way that Internet/Intranet domain names are located and translated into Internet Protocol addresses. A domain name is a meaningful and easy-to-remember "handle" for a URL.

Because maintaining a central list of domain name/IP address correspondences would be impractical, the lists of domain names and IP addresses are distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority. There is probably a DNS server within close geographic proximity to your access provider that maps the domain names in your Internet requests or forwards them to other servers in the Internet.

DNS Alias's can be set up on the DNS server so that when a client requests information via an address (say www.yourdomain.com) the DNS server checks the Alias www, which in turn will point to your web server e.g. 192.168.0.2 (www points to 192.168.0.2).		  
     
What is ADS _____  
  Active Directory System is like a central database that is used to manage certain network and local components such as users and computers, DNS, Policies etc. I like to think of it as a central management unit for the server.  
     
Step by Step Setup Process _____  
 
  1. Open [Configure Your Server], select [One or more servers are already running in my network.] and click [Next]

    Notice: If you don't select this option, your DNS server on the computer cannot resolve domain name in the Internet.

     

  2. Click [Active Directory] link

     

  3. Click [Start] link and run Active Directory wizard.

     

  4. Click [Next]

     

  5. Select [Domain controller for a new domain] and click [Next]

     

  6. Select [Create a new domain tree] and click [Next]

     

  7. Select [Create a new forest of domain trees] and click [Next]

     

  8. Type the full DNS name and click [Next]

     

  9. Type the NetBIOS Domain Name for earlier versions of Windows and click [Next]ACTRAC

     

  10. Change locations and click [Next](Default Settings)

     

  11. Change [Sysvol folder] and click [Next]

     

  12. Click [OK] and install DNS Server

     

  13. Click [Next]

     

  14. Click [Next]

     

  15. Type Administrator Password and click [Next]

     

  16. Click [Next]

     

  17. Wait for some time...

     

  18. Click [Finish]

     

  19. Click [Restart Now]
